SpongeBob is full of optimism, imagination, and pretty much everything wonderful in the world. You can’t help but love him, Patrick, Gary, Mr. Krabs, and even the grumpy old Squidward. Whether you grew up watching the SpongeBob cartoon, or you just stumbled upon a few episodes later in life, there was a little something for everyone in it. Every episode was packed full of hidden references, dance sequences, or delightful tales of friendship and adventure. Our favorite episodes span the seven seas, but here are 10 of our favorites from Bikini Bottom:
1) Chocolate with Nuts
Fancy living, here they come! Patrick and SpongeBob decide to become entrepreneurs (ontre-prenyouers) and learn to sell chocolate bars door-to-door. They “stretch the truth” to sell more chocolate and then learn a valuable lesson in the process. Also, they discover that a crazy fish-man yelling “chocolate” at them isn’t always a bad thing.
2) Pizza Delivery
Poor SpongeBob and Squidward go off to deliver their very first Krusty Krab pizza and get lost on the way (poor SpongeBob! He panics if people yell at him in the car too! He’s just like us). With the help of the pioneers, SpongeBob and Squidward finally get the pizza to the customer. And, we learn that Squidward might be an old curmudgeon, but— still – no one messes with SpongeBob on his watch.
3) Idiot Box
Patrick and SpongeBob order a new t.v. just so they can play in the box! Let’s be honest – boxes were the BEST things to play in as kids – this is a favorite episode for the box alone. There is also the lesson that imagination is the best toy you could ever have, so that is a bonus point.
4) Rock Bottom
SpongeBob and Patrick accidentally get on the wrong bus when leaving the amusement park, Glove World (don’t worry, Patrick did get gloves for his glove action-figure.; it was glove-ception!). They end up in a deep-sea neighborhood and discover all sorts of new oddities.
5) Your Shoe is Untied
SpongeBob teaches Patrick how to tie his shoe and he forgets how to tie his own in the process. There are too many hilarious moments to choose from and too many valuable lessons to learn from: 1) SpongeBob is caught watching something exciting on t.v. 2) We see SpongeBob as a baby (and he is already wearing shoes). 3) There’s a song all about tying your shoes. 4) The Flying Dutchman admits he doesn’t wear shoes but “sometimes I like to wear this little sock over me ghostly tail” 5) Gary saves the day because he’s the best. 6) We learn it is important to be patient when teaching someone something new.
6) Club SpongeBob
Patrick and SpongeBob start a club, have an adventure, and learn from the magical conch shell. It’s a rough start to the episode when Patrick and SpongeBob start to look like they may be turning into elitist jerks but – don’t worry – their delightful and inclusive nature shines through.
7) Graveyard Shift
SpongeBob works the night shift at the Krusty Krab with Squidward and is regaled with stories of the Hash-Slinging Slasher. And, oh no, it’s Tuesday night and the ghostly apparition – with spatulas for hands – returns every Tuesday to haunt the restaurant.
8) Band Geeks
Squidward’s old school friend bullies him into starting a band with townspeople from Bikini Bottom. Squidward is not the best teacher…but the magic of music wins in the end. Also, there is the fantastic moment when Patrick asks, “Is mayonnaise an instrument?” It should be, Patrick. It really should be.
9) The Camping Episode
Patrick and SpongeBob convince Squidward to camp with them, 10 feet from their house, and enjoy marshmallows, camp songs, and scary stories about the mystical Sea Bear. Squidward learns that Sea Bears don’t like him very much…
10) No Weenies Allowed
SpongeBob is one tough sponge! I’ll have you know, he stubbed his toe last week and he only cried for 20 minutes! SpongeBob and Sandy head over to the roughest, toughest sailor club and SpongeBob learns he is a little bit more of a weenie than he thought.
