If you are anything like us then you’ve been waiting for the first glimpse of the Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker movie (premiering in theaters on December 20th, 2019) since the day you walked out of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Still, when you watch the new teaser trailer — be warned — “it’s a trap” because you are definitely going to leave with more questions than answers.
Check out the newest trailer here:
Luke Skywalker narrates the new trailer and reassures Rey (and fans), “we'll always be with you. No one's ever really gone." The final chapter of the Star Wars story is shaping up to be a tale of renewal; Skywalker’s reminder that “no one’s ever really gone” is reflected throughout the teaser trailer. Here’s how:
1) Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber
We know that Luke’s iconic lightsaber was destroyed in the last movie... or was it? In the first few seconds of the new trailer, Rey wields her late mentor’s lightsaber and leaves audiences wondering what else might not be “really gone.”
2) Death Star
Rey and her crew of fellow rebels stumble across the remains of the destroyed Death Star and now audiences are questioning where she is and why she’s there. And, how exactly, will the Death Star be a part of the final story?
3) Kylo Ren’s Mask
We watched Kylo Ren destroy his own mask in The Last Jedi, yet the new trailer shows us the infamous mask being rebuilt... Dundundun.
4) Emperor Palpatine’s Laugh
As the trailer ends — and the screen goes black — we hear the chilling maniacal laughter of the very dead Emperor Palpatine. Or is Palpatine still alive? Oh snap.
When Skywalker said that “no one’s ever really gone” did he mean the bad guys too? We were hoping he meant Yoda or something!
